This growth of a generation with high purchasing power and an affinity for art, which is only just beginning to be tapped, consists of aspiring young professionals with their first career successes and dynamic entrepreneurs, who are building up their business or practice. They are potential art collectors who know how to combine access to the art world with contemporary financing methods and proven advantages.

The new generation also determines the change that has taken place among institutional clients. They want to benefit from the charisma of high-quality art for representational purposes without having to build up an art collection. The new trend is clearly moving in the direction of flexibility. The company premises are furnished with first-class works of art and only later is a decision made as to whether these are to be acquired for ownership, returned or exchanged. Art leasing is also the perfect instrument to avoid costs for expensive storage space and the time-consuming administration of an art collection.

SCALABLE ARTLEASING POTENTIAL – IN THE CANTON OF ZURICH ALONE, THIS AMOUNTS TO CHF 23 – 49 MILLION

The example of the canton of Zurich is a good illustration of the scalable potential of Artleasing. The number of potential private customers*) with the profile of the New Collectors Generation can be estimated at around 200,000 people in the canton. These have the willingness to pay a monthly leasing rate of CHF 200 to 400 for high-quality art, which corresponds to a work of art worth CHF 10,000 to 20,000. If only 1% of this potential is tapped, this leads to an annual leasing volume of CHF 20 to 40 million.

In addition, there are around 12,000 companies in the canton of Zurich with fewer than 250 employees – SMEs such as medical practices, law firms, private banks, trust offices or asset management companies. These companies appreciate the flexibility and tax savings of art leasing and usually select 3 to 4 works of art with a total monthly leasing rate of CHF 500 to 1,500. This corresponds to artworks with a total value of 25’000 to 75’000 CHF. If 1% of the potential can be tapped here as well, this leads to an annual leasing volume of CHF 3 to 9 million.

This results in a scalable art leasing potential of an annual leasing volume of 23 – 49 million CHF in the canton of Zurich alone.

Art Leasing & Invest AG brought cosmopolitan flair to Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse with an intense display of color on 255 and 350 square meters of “outer skin” on the occasion of the facade renovation of the Jelmoli Department Store. The project, realized in close collaboration with Galerie Andres Thalmann, featured inspiring pop-up art created by renowned British artist Ian Davenport. The art on the building was ceremoniously unveiled in front of a large number of journalists and photographers. The project was financed by leasing the artwork.
